THE ABC OF OUR ELBATUTTANATURA® PROJECT

The Elbatuttanatura® project was set up in 1989, conceived by the boutique Hotel Ilio's owner, Maurizio Testa. Since 1989, the Hotel Ilio has been the first "all-nature" hotel on the Island of Elba and throughout Italy, thanks to its Elbatuttanatura project.

The main project characteristics:

The entire hotel is fitted with low consumption lighting, thus saving energy.
Aluminium containers have been eliminated (beverages are only served in glass deposit bottles or recyclable containers).
All cleaning materials are strictly biodegradable.
Our guests are left to decide whether their towels should be changed daily or not.
Individual electric water heaters have been substituted with a centralized energy-saving system.
To cut down on packaging, individual hand soaps and bath oils have been substituted with large containers of mild, natural skin soap. This soap is made of palm and coconut oils and contains only 0.5% traditional Marseilles soap.
All the paper we use is eco-friendly.
Steps have been taken for saving water by reducing consumption;
Waste is separated for recycling purposes, following programmes supported by local waste collection, recycling and disposal firms.
Room numbers have been substituted with names of plants and flowers that can be seen from the balconies or windows of those same rooms.
The breakfast service has been optimized, reducing the amount of single-portion packaging. We have introduced a breakfast buffet that also includes organic products (jam, honey, and muesli).
Our menu features exquisite Elban cuisine in order to valorize the local gastronomic tradition. Whenever possible, local produce (local fish, seasonal fruit and vegetables) is used to prepare the dishes.
We do not use any GM ingredients in our dishes.
Our wine list features local Elban wines (including organic wines) and Tuscan wines so as to add a more authentic local flavour.
Qualified expert guides and instructors from outside our hotel have been selected for leading nature, sport and cultural activities.
For those guests who wish to discover the "other Elba" without the aid of specialist guides or instructors, trekking, mountain bike, free climbing, snorkeling, diving e sea kayak itineraries are available with relative information sheets.
We promote the use of shared public and private transport.
We organize slide shows and film projections featuring marine biology, hiking and other activities in order to inform guests about Elba's cultural and environmental assets.
