Ferry
Two ferry companies, Moby Lines and Toremar, operate the Piombino Marittima-Portoferraio (Elba) route. During the season, there is a ferry crossing every half-hour. We advise you book your crossing in advance, especially if coming by car. Tickets can also be purchased from the ferry terminal, a short walk from the railway station (if your luggage is not too heavy). Tickets can also be purchased on board, with a forfeit of 5 euros per passenger.
Depending on the route, the crossing takes between 40 and 60 minutes. As you approach the Island of Elba, you will be welcomed by the Medicis fortifications overlooking the beautiful bay of Portoferraio.
