Boat Trips

The Ilio Hotel at Capo Sant'Andrea also offers boat excursions to discover the sea around Elba and the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago

Unspoilt coves, deserted beaches even at the height of the season, vegetation clinging to majestic cliffs… Exploring the coast of Elba near Capo Sant’Andrea, or even further a field to the island of Capraia, by boat, cradled between one swim and the next by the lapping of the water, are unforgettable moments of your holiday. And of course, diving enthusiasts can enjoy the many opportunities for snorkelling and scuba-diving.

Boutique Hotel Ilio on Capo Sant’Andrea on the north-western tip of the island and in the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, offers sea lovers a wealth of excursion possibilities organised together with an expert centre for the hire of motor boats (up to 10 metres) with skipper for day trips and for sailing right round the Island of Elba.

THE DESTINATIONS. Towards the south west, you can sail round the western tip of the Island, dominated by Mount Capanne, passing the lighthouse at Point Polveraia, Pomonte and as far as Punta di Fetovaia. This is one of the most beautiful stretches of the coast and, on clear days, you can see Corsica. And on your return, you can end the day by stopping off at Formiche di Zanca.
To the east, the itinerary from Capo Sant’Andrea to Portoferraio offers many interesting destinations: after Marciana there is the beautiful gulf of Procchio (here, we find the famous little island of Paolina, where Paolina Bonaparte used to come to spend a day by the sea), the bay of Biodola and that of Viticcio. After Capo Enfola, famous for its magnificent sea depths, the wonderful Caribbean-type beaches of Sansone and Capo Bianco await. Another beautiful trip is to the “Red” Island of Capraia, wild and enchanting, former home to a 19th century prison. Even today, there is little tourism and offers splendid, unspoilt sea beds, as well as interesting places to visit or you can simply have lunch in one of the little restaurants.

By speed boat, you can circumnavigate the Island, stopping off for lunch in a lovely restaurant by the sea: the most exclusive places being Enfola, the charming beach at Forno and Calanova, where a “pattino” will bring you to a beautiful shore of fine white pebbles. Of course, you can also sail to more lively destinations such as Porto Azzurro, Portoferraio and Marina di Campo, for shopping or to visit places of cultural interest.
